It is recommended to pump a septic tank about every 3-5 years or more depending on water usage.
 Also filtering the solids that may get into the drainfield pipes is a recommended practice. The solids may clog the drain field lines and create an unpenetrateable layer that water cannot pass through therefore causing drainage problems.
 Please do not pour grease down your sink drain!!! This is very bad for your septic tank and drain lines.
